Round of the Quarter

“Round of the Quarter” honors one dance each quarter for each Phase as a favorite dance. Choreographers submit dances to appropriate Phase Chairs who present all submissions to their committee. RoQ committee members review all submissions (in their Phase) and vote for their favorites. Dances with the highest vote tally receive a certificate for Round of the Quarter. First runner-up dance is also recognized and automatically entered into the next quarter for consideration. Members and non-members may submit up to three dances per quarter for considedration.

The ROUNDALAB RoQ now operates under modified procedures, which are deemed necessary to avoid any possibility of violating federal music copyright or “fair use” laws. Dance evaluations are now being done using available free on-line music samples or full songs.

Before submitting a dance, please review the Music Excluded for Consideration documents (sorted by song title or sorted by dance title).

To submit a dance for ROQ consideration, the CUE SHEET must contain the following information:

  • MUSIC The original source of the music (Artist, song title, length, album or CD if available, download info), example: “Somethiing Stupid” by Nancy & Frank Sinatra, 2:38, Album: ‘Sugartown’, Amazon.com download.
  • HEAD CUES A full list of Head Cues at the end to assist in ROQ evaluation.
  • RELEASE DATE Be sure the cue sheet contains a ‘Release Date’ which is less than one year old.
  • Exact URL where the music can be purchased on-line and any on-line source (if known) where the entire song can be heard.

ROQ cannot accept dances when:

  • The music is not readily available.
  • The original source of music is not listed on the cue sheet.
  • The music has been significantly “modified” by the choreographer (see ROQ Procedure 3.08 at the RAL web site).
  • The music is the same as a “Classic” dance (see list on the RAL web site).
  • The dance has a ‘Release Date’ that is more than 1 year old.

NOTE: “Holiday Dances” are no longer identified & eliminated from ROQ consideration.

DEADLINES: Jan 15, Apr 15, July 15, Oct 15.

Submissions received after the deadline will be considered for the next quarter. Questions about submissions can be directed to the ROQ Chairman, RAL Office or individual phase chairs.
